Teams of climbers are to scale all four of the UK’s highest peaks and light beacons in commemoration of D-Day.

Beacons are to be lit across Hampshire as part of a national initiative to light 800 of them to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings

The operation saw the Allied Forces mount a large-scale invasion of Nazi-occupied France that tipped the course of World War Two in the Allies’ favour A free event will be held in Wolverhampton city centre to mark the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.

The New Orleans high school band will perform at D-Day 80th anniversary events at the American cemeteries in Brittany and Normandy, give a concert in Paris
