The binturong (Arctictis binturong) (/ b ɪ n ˈ tj ʊər ɒ ŋ, ˈ b ɪ n tj ʊr ɒ ŋ /, bin-TURE-ong, BIN-ture-ong), also known as the bearcat, is a viverrid native to South and Southeast Asia. It is uncommon in much of its range, and has been assessed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because of a declining population.

Physical Description. Binturonga are the largest species in the Viverridae family, weighing 9 to 20 kg (Cosson et al., 2007). Their body length is 61 to 96 cm with an almost equal tail length of 56 to 89 cm (Nowak, 1999). Females are 20% larger than males (San Diego Zoo, 2012).

It may be predominantly frugivorous and feeds largely on various species of figs ( Jennings & Veron, 2009; Nakabayashi et al., 2016, 2017; Nakabayashi & Ahmad, 2018) and seems to contribute to seed dispersal ( Colon & Campos-Arceiz 2013 ).
